Eighteen young people from the region celebrated the completion of their first summer jobs August 27 thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Vaudreuil-Soulanges and the Caisse Desjardins de Vaudreuil-Soulanges.

The closing event of the Desjardins Youth Work Experience program, organized by Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Vaudreuil-Soulanges in collaboration with Caisse Desjardins de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, took place Thursday afternoon, August 27 at Valois Park in Vaudreuil-Dorion. While respecting the distancing and hygiene measures in force, most of the youth and employers registered in the program took turns to go and meet the program officials individually.

During the event, each youth received a certificate of participation in the program, as well as a basket of local products as a participation gift. In addition, all participants (youth and employers) received a photo of themselves in their workplace during the summer period covered by the program.

The Chair of Caisse Desjardins de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Pauline Thauvette-Leroux, was present at the event and said she was proud to see that, despite the pandemic, the Desjardins Youth Work Experience program was carried out as planned and with great success.

“Eighteen young people from the region were able to experience their first job and benefit from a valuable exploration of the world of work, despite the circumstances of COVID-19. What about the committed employers who participated in the program and devoted the time needed to train these young people in their job internships? Today, we can all proclaim ‘Mission accomplished!’”

Mireille Dumoulin, project manager at Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Vaudreuil-Soulanges, said she was honoured to have been able to support and supervise the young people in their very first job – a pivotal stage in their lives – and to have seen them evolve over the summer during their introduction to the realities of the job market.

“The year 2020 is my fourth summer as organizer of the Desjardins Youth Work Experience program. Naturally, the exceptional context of COVID-19 caused me to adapt my work on several levels, but I feel all the more proud and blessed that I was able to support companies in recruiting their workforce, and that I could accompany young people in the midst of this period of change, uncertainty and worry. I would like to highlight the outstanding work of Caisse Desjardins de Vaudreuil-Soulanges and the participating companies. It is truly an honour to work with all the people who make the program a success year after year.”

For the past 11 years, the CJE-VS and Desjardins VS have been working together to operate the Desjardins Youth Work Experience program, which consists of establishing a partnership between Caisse Desjardins, Carrefour jeunesse-emploi and local businesses and organizations in order to create summer internship positions. The program focuses on training and guiding young people by giving them some proper preparation for the job market and a personally rewarding experience.
