The back to school season coincides with leisure activity registrations this year and changes have been made to make it a little easier for residents to sign up with the many sports, cultural and recreational organizations.

The Accès-Loisirs Vaudreuil-Soulanges program is back with new registration dates for the upcoming fall session in a simple, accessible, and secure format. The usual registration program which is normally held in the spring was cancelled due the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

As a result of the pandemic, some families may have still not received their 2019 assessment notices which are a regular part of the registration process. In order to facilitate the process, the program committee is offering a deferment which will allow families already participating in Accès-Loisirs to have their membership cards renewed automatically without having to provide new proof of income. Membership cards will therefore expire in August 2021 instead of August this year.

Creating an account online

People interested in online registration can visit the website www.accesloisirsVS.ca in order to create an account and submit the necessary documents before September 9. Families with an account will be able to consult the list of activities and take advantage of the online registration process which will be open from Saturday, September 12 at 10 a.m. until Monday, September 14 at 4 p.m.

While online registration is preferred because of COVID-19, eligible citizens can also register in person at one of the service points by presenting proof of income (federal or provincial notice of assessment for 2018 or 2019) or the claim slip for income security recipients. Residents are also required to provide proof of residency with an address, such as a driver’s license or tax bill.

On-site registration

Residents who live in the Île-Perrot and Vaudreuil sector can register in person on Saturday, September 12 at the Centre communautaire Paul-Émile-Lépine at 150, Perrot Blvd. in L’Île-Perrot from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Residents who live in the Soulanges sector can register on the same day and time at the Maison de la Famille Vaudreuil-Soulanges at 1210, rue Principale in Saint-Zotique.

For residents who live in the Mont Rigaud sector, registration will take place Sunday, September 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p. m. at the Salle La Coulée de L’escapade at 15, rue du Boisé-des-Franciscaines, in Rigaud.

Citizens are reminded to limit the number of family members to two people per family at the on-site registration sites, respect the two-metre social distancing measures in public buildings, to wear a face mask and to wash their hands.

A positive way to end social isolation

The Accès-Loisirs Vaudreuil-Soulanges program was inspired by a model already established in several regions of Quebec which provides spots in activities that are offered by sports, cultural and recreational organizations that spontaneously provide places in their various activities or offer places that have not been filled during the registration period. These places then become available to all persons eligible for the Accès-Loisirs Vaudreuil-Soulanges program.

The latest figures from the Direction de la santé publique indicate that more than 6,000 residents in Vaudreuil-Soulanges are currently living below the low income cut-off level. Whether for families or individuals, the practice of sporting, cultural or outdoor activities makes it possible to socialize, to break the isolation and to develop skills that enhance the quality of life of citizens and the dynamism of our people and communities.
