The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion invites citizens, young and old, to register for its very first Esports tournament which will take place August 1 at 11 a.m. and whose grand finale will have a place on the giant screen of the ephemeral cinema-park at the Cité-des-Jeunes campus at 9 p.m. Participants will compete in the NHL’20 game on the PS4 console.

This is a team tournament of three people, each of whom must register individually. Players without a team will be matched with other participants. The activity is aimed at all residents aged 12 and over. To register, simply go to the city's website (ville.vaudreuil-dorion.qc.ca/en) in the Services to residents/Online Services/Registration for activities section as of July 14.

A citizen card is required to register, the cost of which is $5 per person or $10 including access to the drive-in park in the evening to attend the final. Online payment is suggested, however, it is also possible to pay cash with the Recreation and Culture Service, located on the 2nd floor of the Centre Multisports 3093 Boulevard de la Gare.

“We were wondering how to reach our young people, for whom the past few months have been extremely difficult,” said Mayor Guy Pilon. “We know that many love video games. The equipment put in place for the drive-in allowed us to organize a major event with this tournament. We believe that the activity would interest our teenage citizens, but also adults as well.”

"Our library is a living environment where young people like to meet with friends to enjoy LAB digital equipment or play video games in the Teen Space, among other things,” said Annick Lemay, head of the library division. “The habits of our users have been turned upside down with our new reality. We are pleased to offer them the opportunity to meet for a virtual tournament, the final of which will be extraordinary.”

The four finalist teams, who will compete on the giant screen of the drive-in, will win an award. In case of rain, the final will be postponed to August 2.

For more information, residents are invited to contact the library at (450) 455-3371, option 6.
