Fine for some?

Dear Editor,

This week’s heat wave has been exacerbated by the lack of rainfall and with all the municipalities in the area issuing watering bans, one has to wonder why so many residents are still watering their lawns as if water was an unending supply.

I ride my bicycle to work in the early morning through three Vaudreuil-Soulanges municipalities and without fail, I see homes where sprinklers have been left out all night judging by the amount of runoff draining down into the sewer at the side of the street. Perhaps ironically, these are often the large affluent homes and not the cottages and bungalows on smaller lots.

It’s not enough for area towns to send emails or announce via electronic billboards that a watering ban is indeed in place. We all pay municipal taxes for inspectors to have boots on the ground to issue the appropriate fines for excessive water usage.

I don’t care if my neighbour’s lawn is green but I do care about having enough potable water in our town’s supply to get us through the rest of the summer.
