Four on the floor policing

Some Hudson residents were surprised last week to see two Sûreté du Québec (SQ) police officers patrolling the town on horseback, seen here on Oakland Avenue in Hudson Heights.

SQ spokesperson Sgt. Ingrid Asselin said the horse patrols are often used in more rural communities and the riders perform all the same duties as any other patrolling officers, including issuing tickets for infractions.

They horses will not be having a permanent post in Hudson however. The mounted horse patrols make the rounds in the region and also play a significant role in community outreach and public relations with the provincial police force.
