Pandemic reflection

Dear Editor,

The COVID-19 virus is approximately 0.125 Micron in size and yet this microscopic monster, which according to many scientific sources originated through natural processes, has brought the world to its knees. The rich, the powerful, the believers, the non-believers and the mega celebrities have all come to the realization that our fates are all entwined. Ironically even those lacking in empathy are praying for their neighbour’s wellbeing because they realize now it is so closely tied in to their own.

Some people believe God is sending them a message. What they fail to understand is God has nothing to do with it. The message has been there all along, all they had to do was open their eyes. Land, air and water pollution are gradually destroying our planet. Racism, social and financial inequality, intolerance, inhumanity. nationalism and greed all demand a price be paid. Before this crisis came along the only ones paying that price were the poor, the abandoned, the ostracized, and the weak.

Let’s hope the world takes this opportunity to recalibrate its priorities and that common sense, compassion, charity and reason take over.

It is long overdue.
