Centre d’action bénévole l’Acutel update on COVID-19

Like the vast majority of voluntary action centers in Quebec, L'Actuel continues to offer its services but on a limited basis. We want to reassure you and keep you informed of the measures we have put in place to ensure your safety and wellbeing as well as that of our employees.

L'Actuel offers services to isolated and vulnerable clienteles. Despite the pandemic, our concern is to maintain our essential services. Food, clothing and baby essentials will continue. People who need help can contact Geneviève Gravel at intervenante@lactuel.org or (450) 455-3331 ext. 228.

During this time of crisis, security calls and medication reminders from the PAIR program continue to be available ensuring the safety of seniors and isolated people. L'Actuel will provide subscriber service and can accept new registrations without problem. For more information, contact (450) 455-3331 ext. 0.

Our collective cooking groups, friendship visits, and parental respite programs are suspended to avoid physical contact between people. We will keep a link by phone with users to follow up on their situation.

L’Actuel’s tax clinic is suspended until March 29. This break will allow L’Actuel to assess the various possibilities related to this service. Note that the Quebec government has announced the deadline for filing tax returns has been extended to June 1, 2020.

Our medical transportation is maintained for emergencies only and subject to the availability of our volunteers. This service, which involves many users and volunteers over the age of 70, is necessarily slowed down due to health regulations.

Hygiene in the organization and in the shop

Our Boutique-Friperie and our organization remain open. We are working hard to keep our spaces as safe and clean as possible. We are making sure to carefully clean areas with many contact points, such as the cash register, counters, tables, desks, handles several times a day. All employees are informed of the hygiene measures to be taken. Antibacterial gel is available to customers and hygiene reminders are posted in various places.

Public health instructions

We ask everyone to respect the Public Health instructions, including staying at home if they are over 70, if they have recently traveled or if they have symptoms (fever, cough and difficulty breathing). In the coming days, we will ask visitors to the organization and the Boutique-Friperie as well as employees to fill out a form when they arrive.

Open shop

The Boutique-Friperie is not considered an essential service at the moment, but a part of the population may need books, games, clothing or kitchen accessories at affordable prices, especially in this period of confinement. We therefore decided to keep it open but to reduce the opening hours: Wednesday and Thursday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 1:30 to 4 p.m. This schedule will be reassessed each week according to the resources available.
