For the love of our fur-babies

Dear Editor,

Kick in the Arts columnist Brian Gallagher wrote in last week’s paper about questions on keeping an ailing pet going.

We ourselves have been in his predicament a few, yet way too many, times. If we had been less affluent the choices we had to make would have been much easier to decide. If you can't afford expensive intervention, euthanasia is often the only option. I said ‘less affluent.’

By no means were we to be considered wealthy, yet we spent the equivalent of a luxury car to extend the life of a few of our fur-babies. Non-pet lovers cannot understand that they are almost our children. But nonetheless there came the time to ask if the animal was suffering. Any hesitation in answering was the sign of the affirmative. We had to let go as painful as it was for us.

P.S. Rest assured that Hobbes is in very capable hands of Lise and her Saint-Lazare Veterinary Hospital pet-loving team.
