Pay it forward
I would first like to commend you all on your excellent newspaper. As a small business owner in Kirkland, my customers always enjoy reading your newspapers as they eat their lunch at my restaurant.
My oldest daughter Olivia is in Mrs. Tawadrous’ Grade 6 class at Forest Hill Senior in Saint-Lazare.
A couple of weeks ago she gave the students a ‘Pay it forward’ assignment. Olivia was so excited about the idea – it’s very rare that she actually gets excited to do homework.
She had so many ideas from food baskets to wanting to help clean her grandparents’ gutters. With limited time, she came up with the idea of Olivia’s Clothing Collection. Olivia decided to collect used clothing and donate them to Centre D’Entraide Saint-Lazare.
She printed up 50 flyers and asked us to drive her around the neighbourhood. She went door to door in Saint-Lazare and in Pointe-Claire. Olivia came up with a pick-up schedule and made sure to present herself at each house. It was incredible how much people donated and truly made her feel good about decision to collect for the less fortunate.
I just wanted to share some happy news as we get closer to the holidays and to commend a teacher for thinking outside of a text book.
(a really proud dad)
