On the morning of Thursday, October 10, investigators from the MRC Vaudreuil-Soulanges East detachment of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) arrested a 38-year-old man, Ludgero Carvalho, and a 35-year-old woman, Magalie Chapman, pertaining to thefts from vehicles in Vaudreuil-Dorion and for acts of fraud committed mainly in the City of Pincourt.
Both were arrested at their home in Vaudreuil-Dorion and interviewed by the investigators. They remained in custody and appeared at the Valleyfield Courthouse on October 11 to face 15 individual charges including credit card theft, cash and jewellery theft, vehicle theft, fraud, and a breach of conditions of a promise given to a judge.
The investigation was initiated in early September following complaints to police for offenses committed during the month of September. Following the use of different investigative techniques, the investigators were able to identify the suspects and proceed with their arrest.
The investigation is continuing to determine whether other offenses of the same nature have been committed. It also revealed that the suspects spotted vehicles whose doors were not locked to commit their theft. Police are reminding residents of the importance of always locking car doors, and also of not leaving valuable objects in the car, and at no time to financial or personal identity documents in the car.
