In the bin

Dear Editor,

The letter in The Journal, August 29, concerning the raccoon that had a plastic lid on its head was very interesting but the advice about methods of recycling is incorrect.

All lids must be removed prior to being put in the bin otherwise the article isn’t recyclable. Oftentimes the lid is either not recyclable at all, or has a different number than the container and for other reasons as well, which we learned from attending an information session here in Saint-Lazare.

It was suggested to keep the bins in the garage or shed until the morning of pickup or if it’s normally kept outdoors to secure the lid so that raccoons can’t open it.

The manager of the information session showed a film of the recycling centre and exactly how things were done and explained the why as well. I highly recommend it.
