Hudson Valleys Home – Country Living at its finest

The committee of the St. James’ Church Country Homes Tour always presents an exceptional line-up of homes for their annual June fundraising event. The Wilshire House, with a prestigious Hudson address, is one of this year’s carefully curated picks.

The home, built in 2012, is located on a private crescent and sits harmoniously on a 35,000 sq-foot lot that is subtly landscaped and full of mature trees. The exterior, in keeping with the developer’s vision, is square cut stone, with gables, casement windows and arched transoms. The attention to detail begins with the formal boxwood hedge lining the driveway and continues throughout the stunning 24-room residence.

The house has its own unique style where modern mixes with traditional in airy, elegant spaces. Light streams into the home and the views, outdoors or in, are always rewarded. Notable features include curved walls, paneled wainscoting, hardwood floors, decorative tile designs, coffered ceilings and crown moldings. The foyer is grand with its 18-foot cathedral ceiling and crystal chandelier. A sweeping walnut staircase leads to the mezzanine and provides a dramatic view of the entranceway below.

In the study, off the foyer, and the dining room, the owners chose sophisticated Louis XV style furnishings that lend formality to the spaces. A decorative china cabinet, part of the dining set holds a magnificent full china service in gold. One of the home’s three fireplaces is here.

The chef’s kitchen is reminiscent of an iconic Smallbone design. There are glass cabinets, a generous centre island, granite counter tops, a wine fridge, Wolff stove, plus high-end appliances. The tiled floor has a marble compass rose inlay, one of four in the home. Red stools and the bold crimson floral wall covering in the dinette provide splashes of colour in the neutral palette. The kitchen opens up to an all-season solarium with a deluxe Swim Spa.

The main floor master bedroom, with a walk out to a stone patio, is layered in materials and texture – soft furnishings, floor to ceiling drapes, hardwood underfoot plus a propane fireplace and a lofty coffered ceiling. The large walk-in closets are planned with precision. The luxurious ensuite is itself a destination, complete with elegant chandelier, a fanciful mosaic, heated floors, separate double shower and vanity, freestanding tub and a dreamy make up station.

The home’s upper level has three bedrooms; one has a stylish white leather bed that takes centre stage in a room awash in a rich blue paint. Sensational silver pendant lights, gorgeous even in daylight, flank the bed.

The dwelling’s lower level is the place for relaxation. A luxurious home theatre with leather seating plus a yoga room, wine cellar, billiard room and a bar caters are antidotes to busy lives.

For al fresco dining, the gourmet kitchen is outfitted with fridge, grill, counter surfaces, thoughtfully laid out for the barbecuing savant. It overlooks a heated saltwater pool and a fully furnished cabana. Gardens and planting provide the loveliest of backdrops.

The home is gorgeous and ‘smart’- wired with technology that controls the entire residence including lighting, audio, temperature and theatre. It is equipped with surround sound inside and out for the ultimate in convenience.

The Wilshire home is country living at its finest.
