Music provides relief!

Music provides relief!

Why hello there beautiful people. Now that it looks like the weather has finally turned the corner towards somewhat resembling summer (spring? ‘sprumner?’), this week’s column is dedicated to a couple of great upcoming musical events that are worth your attention as they are not only a lot of fun but also support a couple of great causes.

Coming up on June 6 will be the first of several fundraising musical events organized to help out victims of the otherworldly flooding that has hit the area twice in the last three years. Seiji Gutierrez has organized, and will be hosting, an evening of musical performances by members of the local Hudson band ‘The Breeze’ as well as artists belonging to the Hudson ‘Troubadours and Vagabonds Society’ and ‘Hudson Bluegrass Jammers’ collectives. Titled ‘Hudson’s Hidden Gems – A Flood Relief Benefit,’ approximately 20 artists will talk about their musical journeys in an intimate setting and play some of their favourite tunes.

Seiji will act as host and interviewer for the event so this should be a great evening of music and a wonderful way for you to get to know more about the talented musicians in and around Hudson. The show is from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Hudson Village Theatre. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door or at www.villagetheatre.ca and follow the links for ‘Hudson’s Hidden Gems.’For more information you can also call the Theatre at (450) 458-5361. Not only will you be entertained with a great evening of music your entrance fee will also help your friends and neighbours in need!

A real treat is in store for fans of music from the 70s, 80s and 90s, more specifically those who wish to support the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence (VSPCR): the Back to chez Maurice fundraiser. The third edition of this popular event will be held this Saturday evening on May 25 at Bar Chez Maurice in Saint-Lazare and will feature four groups and four DJs. All funds raised from the offsite ticket sales will be donated to the VSPCR Foundation. Once again this year guests will enjoy live performances by Chess, Cinema 5 and Likwid. Vicky and Seb (members of Young Souls and Wicked Access) will join them. As well, DJs Marcel Ménard, Daniel Chantelois, Karl Bastien and Stéphane Charland will be on hand to keep things rolling. Last year’s event helped raise $14,500 for the VSPCR Foundation.

This annual reunion is the brainchild of Ginette Plante, who waitressed at the bar from 1974 to 2000. She returned in 2013, and is still serving bar patrons. The idea for a ‘Back to’ event was planted when a former employee had expressed the desire to work at the bar, if only for one night, perhaps as part of a fundraising event. Since Ginette is also a VSPCR volunteer, the choice of a fundraiser recipient was a foregone conclusion.

Tickets may be obtained prior to the event at the Bar Chez Maurice ticket office, on its website, or by calling Ginette at (450) 202-1195 (home) or (450) 802-5972 (cell). Bar employees and patrons will be selling tickets throughout the area as well. Tickets purchased on the evening of the event will be $25.
