Open letter from Mayor Robert Grimaudo
Dear residents of Saint-Lazare,
I have been asked many times in the last week why I did not sign the letter sent from four (4) Saint-Lazare councillors to the editor of The Journal and all the media regarding the resignation of Councillor Pamela Tremblay. In my opinion, and as per my observations, the letter was inaccurate and wrong. I believe that Mrs. Tremblay has been subjected to verbal abuse, and that on many occasions.
I have voiced objection to council about the return of Councillor Richard Chartrand to the caucus and the administrative work table because I believe that measures to ensure a work environment free of verbal abuse have not been put in place. Unfortunately, the majority of council has voted for his return.
On March 8, the administration of Saint-Lazare sent a letter to the elected officials describing the events that occurred March 5. Being present during this event, I confirm that the content of the letter is accurate. As Mayor, I believe this type of behavior is unacceptable and intolerable in any work environment or society.
I am saddened by the resignation of Pamela Tremblay. She has served our community since 2013 with integrity and passion. Two councillors have resigned from Saint-Lazare council in the last five weeks and according to their letters of resignations, it is due to an unhealthy work environment.
Lastly, let me reiterate my commitment to the residents of Saint-Lazare. You have entrusted in me the responsibility to represent this excellent community with honesty and integrity, and I will continue to fulfill my duties to the best of my ability.
Mayor of Saint Lazare
