A number of Les Gymnastes de L’Île’s athletes will compete in the upcoming provincial cup in May and selected athletes from across the province will be selected to compete at the national level.
The Île-Perrot-based Les Gymnastes de L’Île competed in the 2nd Quebec Gymnastics Acrobatic cup in Montreal on March 8, 2019. Acrobatic gymnastics combines the beauty of dance with the strength and agility of acrobatics. Routines are choreographed to music and consist of dance, tumbling, and partner skills.
At the level JO5 pair, Julianna Della Rocca and Timea Harris won the gold medal and Tyannah Challenger and Isis Bain brought home the silver medal. Competing for the first time at the level JO5 trio, Elisabeth Aleksandrov, Amelie Molango, and Sara Naylor won gold, and Glory Tsoukalas, Jordanna Ashworth and Ciara Woods earned fourth place ribbons. At the level JO6 pair, Felicity Ho and Tündi Harris won gold, Jenna Ganis and Guydgie Elisha Julien won the silver, and Jessica Yehia-Joseph and Raphaelle-Lily Masson won the bronze. Justine Yu and her partner Riley Vathis earned fourth place ribbons.
Youth level mix pair Marcus Grandison and Emilie Pominville won gold as did the Youth trio Florence Livingston, Amy Partington and Clare Partington. These exceptional athletes are now preparing for the upcoming provincial cup which will be held in May in Montreal.
Selected athletes from various clubs across the province will then be selected to compete at the 1st Canadian Championships in Acrobatic Gymnastics in Oakville, Ontario. The athletes and parents are thankful to the coaches, Ewa Rucka and Andrzej Cichalewski, for their time, commitment, and unwavering dedication to the sport and more importantly, to athlete development.
