Vaudreuil MNA Marie-Claude Nichols is calling on constituents to sign a petition at the National Assembly to demand the Ministry of Transport repair the des Chenaux overpass in Vaudreuil-Dorion as soon as possible.

Liberal Vaudreuil MNA Marie-Claude Nichols released a communiqué late last week in response to citizens’ requests demanding the reconstruction of the des Chenaux overpass in Vaudreuil-Dorion to be reconstructed as soon as possible.

Nichols has posted and filed a petition to the National Assembly calling for the reconstruction of the overpass saying she intends to represent and support her citizens to put pressure on the CAQ government.

On January 10, MNA Nichols asked the Minister of Transport, François Bonnardel, for his intervention on this matter for the citizens of the Vaudreuil County. This brought to his attention the problem of road congestion, which is assuming alarming proportions, while recalling the safety issue of the citizens living in this sector, particularly in connection with the mobility component of emergency vehicles in the event of an accident, fire, or health problem.

As reported in The Journal December 6, 2018, Vaudreuil-Dorion Mayor Guy Pilon said it could take five years before the overpass, the first one spanning Highway 40 westbound after the Île aux Tourtes Bridge from the West Island, reopens.

Motorists who used to get off at Exit 36 and use the des Chenaux Bridge to cross over to the southeast side of Highway 40, now have to continue until the next exit, cross the Avenue St. Charles bridge and double back to get to their original destination which increases traffic congestion in the area.

"It is with astonishment that we found that the reconstruction project for the des Chenaux overpass in Vaudreuil-Dorion did not appear on the list ‘Investissements routiers et maritimes 2019-2021’ announced recently by the Ministère des Transports at a press conference in Saint-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu,” Nichols said in the communiqué.

“We invite citizens to mobilize, circulate the petition, and share our Facebook publication to get the most signatures. You can support the petition on the website of the National Assembly of Quebec at https://www.assnat.qc.ca/en/exprimez-votre-opinion/petition/Petition-7667/index.html.
