We have just celebrated our 10th annual Hudson’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and what a parade it was.
St. Patrick’s Day is a festival of life. It’s a joyous celebration of all the things we have in common and a rejection of all the things that drive us apart.
The standard line is that everybody is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and it’s true. The men, women and children standing at the side of the road dressed in green with comical hats, massive ties, and colorful glasses are not Catholics, Protestants, Jews, or Muslims and they are not white, black, or brown.
They are all green and loving it (some of them are literally green after drinking way too much). Happiness, love, community, and family values rule the day.
Hate, sectarianism, racism, and indifference play no part in the day’s celebration as they should play no part in today’s world.
