Now in its sixth season, the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Seasonal and Student Job Fair will welcome more than 40 companies and organizations with an estimated 400 available jobs.

Students and seasonal workers looking for job opportunities are invited to attend the upcoming sixth edition of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Seasonal and Student Job Fair (Journée EMPLOIS étudiants et saisonniers de Vaudreuil-Soulanges).

The event takes place next Wednesday, February 20 from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Centre Multisports, 3093 Boulevard de la Gare, in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

More than 40 companies/organizations

The annual event is touted as an excellent opportunity for students and seasonal workers to meet with employers and organizations from the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region who will be present in one central location. Job seekers will learn about the variety of positions offered at the fair and the resources available to their job-search efforts.

Michel Desjardins, the Logistics Organizer for the event, said the job fair continues to grow in stature. “It’s successful because around 400 to 500 people visit each year. We’ve usually had around 20 to 25 companies that participated in the past, but this year we’ll have representatives from more than 40 companies and organizations,” Desjardins told The Journal.

“We expect to receive a lot of visitors this year because there will be about 400 jobs available,” he added.

Great networking opportunity

Attending the job fair will give many students their initial taste of finding out what it’s like looking for a job as they will meet with prospective employers for the first time. The experience will also help students learn invaluable networking skills, how to present themselves to employers, and perhaps influence them in future career decisions.

In addition to meeting company representatives and discussing job opportunities in person, the event will allow participants to familiarize themselves with www.emploietudiant.gouv.qc.ca, a website that offers advice on job searches.

The site will also direct searchers to the ‘Placement en ligne’ a database of additional jobs and/or internships that will allow them to gain the experience needed in the chosen career path.

Preparing ahead of time

Students and seasonal workers eager to snag a job don’t have to go to the job fair cold. They can prepare ahead of time by learning various tips about job search techniques and questions to ask by visiting the www.salonemploivs.com website and consulting the sub-topic on how to prepare for the visit.

It’s also still not too late for companies in the region that want to participate in this year’s event. They can register by completing an online registration form which is available on the job fair’s website at www.salonemploivs.com.

The partners of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Seasonal and Student Job fair, which make up the organizing committee of the job fair, are the Centre local d’emploi de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Carrefour Jeunesse-emploi Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Développement Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Collège de Valleyfield, Commission scolaire des Trois-Lacs, Réseau Emploi-Entrepreneurship, SDEM-SEMO Montérégie and Umanico.
