Diamonds are a girl’s best friend

ARTWORK BY KEITH FORD

Local duo Gallagher – Ford will be live in concert in Ormstown on February 22 performing original songs from their upcoming album.

“Diamonds are a girl’s best friend but dogs are a man’s best friend. Now you know which sex has more sense” – Zsa Zsa Gabor

As a wise woman once said, diamonds are indeed a girl’s best friend. Cubic Zirconium is only an acquaintance or annoying second cousin with bad teeth. Let’s face it - chocolates are delish, flowers are pretty but the rock rules. The chocolates are gone in 60 seconds (around here anyways), the flowers start to wilt, droop and only remind us that life is finite and death is imminent for us all (too dark? Probably). But the diamond – now that is one tough resilient brilliant bugger. Created through intense pressure, tough enough to handle the biggest stress, it reminds us that even if life is a crazy up and down journey, it can shine brightly if you polish and nurture it! Besides you can’t go on a nice long Mediterranean cruise by selling the chocolates or the flowers if the relationship goes sour… see? I can be positive! Although selling the Cubic Zirconium does get you a one-way bus ride to Kingston (Ontario, not Jamaica).

So if it’s chocolate, make it dark (much healthier for you and goes better with a nice glass of red wine); if it’s flowers, make them artificial (the cats won’t eat them and have you never heard of re-gifting?) but no matter how you are expressing your feelings today, or to whom, make it count and shower the ones around you with love first and foremost – Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you beautiful people out there!

Music notes for February

Times 2 acoustic duo (featuring Jennifer Arditi) will be playing Valentine’s love songs at Duke + Devine’s, 479 Beaconsfield Boulevard in Beaurepaire village this Saturday, February 16 starting at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

Shameless plug coming up – On Friday, February 22 myself and the talented Keith Ford will be playing our first original show featuring songs from our upcoming album. I am very excited to be presenting new material for the first time since 2017 and teaming up with a great partner. The show will be at GiGzz Musique-Resto in Ormstown at their new location of 31a Bridge Street. There is an open mic starting at 7 p.m. and then we hit the stage at 8 p.m. Reservations are recommended and can be obtained by contacting Kevin or Christine at (514) 217-1465. Hoping to see some new and old friends there!

For all you 1970s rockers, the Led Zeppelin tribute band ‘Kashmir’ plays Chez Maurice, 1897 chemin Ste-Angélique in Saint-Lazare Saturday, February 16. Tickets are $25.

Hey artists and musicians – have an original show or release coming up? Make sure you tell me about it so I can give you a shout out!
