Letter to the editor, February 7, 2019

Dear Editor, Thank you for James Armstrong’s article in last week’s edition of The Journal regarding the decision facing the congregation of the Hudson Pastoral Charge of the United Church of Canada. The one correction that I would point out is that it was me, not Rev. Kent Chown, who stated the need for a clear motion to be decided upon regarding the future of the congregation. The meeting took place Sunday, February 3 and the congregation decided to move forward with the proposal to sell Wyman Memorial United Church, and update the Côte Saint-Charles United Church to become the permanent home for the congregation. The meeting was well attended and everyone understood the gravity of the decision. While the decision was not unanimous, a significant majority was in favour of the motion. While the congregation will have a heavy heart leaving Wyman there is also a sense of purpose and hope that goes with this decision. The Ad Hoc Committee will now change focus to start work putting the decision into action. There are still many details to work on but we intend to progress as quickly as possible. Thank you once again for your interest in this project, and your no-nonsense way of reporting the facts to the greater community at large. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]

Kind regards,

Martin Smith
