Five fire departments from the region responded to help the Saint-Lazare firefighters who were called out at 1:30 p.m. to battle a blaze that destroyed a home at 3800 chemin Saint Angélique on Wednesday, December 12.
“So far, we don’t know the cause of the fire. When we arrived, flames were coming out of the windows at the back of the house,” said Saint Lazare Fire Chief Daniel Boyer. “We made an interior attack but had to retreat because of a flash over,” he said describing the event that occurs when gases contained in the smoke reach a certain temperature and burst into flame.
According to the fire chief, the owner of the house arrived home earlier in the day to discover his home in flames and called the fire department. No injuries were reported and the fire department was able to rescue the owner’s cat.
“We will be on the site for another two hours,” said the chief at around 4 p.m.
“We will be back tomorrow morning to determine the cause of the fire.”
