Local music scene continues to grow

Singer/songwriter Amos J brings his soulful voice and guitar to the stage at Château du Lac the evening of November 10.

The onset of winter doesn’t mean being confined to your home for the next six months or so. Embrace your snow-loving Canadian genes, bundle up and head out to one of these local hotspots for musical entertainment, trivia quizzes, good food and drink, and to reconnect with your friends and community members. No need to travel all the way to Montreal – we have everything we need in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region to keep you warm, fed, and entertained.

Hudson - Château du Lac

Château du Lac is truly one of Hudson’s iconic entertainment venues. No need to go downtown to enjoy the best entertainment when ‘The Chât’ offers a wide range of live bands, DJs, comedy nights, wine tasting events, plus a bar, terrace and games.

“We have some great upcoming shows on Saturdays,” says manager Rebecca Patterson. “Every Saturday night, if you’re looking for a live show, come down to Château du Lac. We play all sorts of musical genres. Our Facebook page lists all the events.” Some of the upcoming live performers include Amos J, an acoustic guitar player on November 10, and the Derek Falls Trio on November 17. Château du Lac will also host the Bad & BOOzy Halloween event on November 3. Trivia Night is the latest craze, and Château du Lac will host one every month, starting with The Office Trivia Night, inspired by the hit TV show, on November 25.

“We are also looking forward to our Losers’ Night event in December, which is always on the 25th. So, we invite people to come out to party with us after their Christmas dinner with their family.”

This historical Hudson landmark can also host your private venues. Château du Lac is located at 460 Main Road in Hudson. Visit chateaudulac.ca or the Facebook page to find out more.

Vaudreuil-Dorion – McKibbin’s Irish Pub

McKibbin’s has always been synonymous with great food and great times and we no longer need to drive out to the West Island or downtown to enjoy their signature atmosphere since we now have one right here in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

“We’ve been part of the community for five years now,” says Nick Pichereau, manager of McKibbin’s Vaudreuil. “We are a local pub for all ages. We offer a wide range of beers and our food is all prepared in-house. It all focuses on comfort food. We’re your local pub where people can meet and enjoy good times with friends.”

McKibbin’s is also the local hub for live entertainment. “We feature local live groups from Wednesday to Saturday,” Nick says. “We have complete ensembles with five or six musicians with dancing over the weekend while Wednesday and Thursday feature duos or singers. We are lucky because our four locations attract some of best talents from the Greater Montreal area.”

McKibbin’s Vaudreuil’s extended Happy Hour is from 4 to 8 p.m. They also offer a free buffet. The extensive menu includes signature fare shared between all McKibbin’s locations and daily local specials. McKibbin’s Vaudreuil is the perfect place to relax with friends after work or a shopping spree.

McKibbin’s Vaudreuil is located at the heart of the Vaudreuil-Dorion commercial sector at 3036 Boulevard de la Gare. You can find out more on www.mckibbinsirishpub.com.

Saint-Lazare – Bar Chez Maurice

Everyone knows Bar Chez Maurice in Saint-Lazare as one of the longest-running live entertainment venues in the area. For over 40 years, Bar Chez Maurice has been the entertainment destination of generations of locals for live rock and pop bands, tribute shows, comedians, televised sports and great food.

People are often surprised to see the names of highly popular and successful musicians that have been featured at Bar Chez Maurice.

While Monday evening is the best time to enjoy a quiet meal or watch a game on one of the large screens, Chez Maurice also offers a wide range of entertainment options the rest of the week. Tuesday is Pub Quiz Night, which is the latest trend, and Wednesday is Improv Night.

Thursday is Humour Night. “We have featured all of today’s most popular stand-up comics, from Martin Matte and Louis-José Houde to Philippe Bond and many others,” says owner Richard Chartrand. “They have all come here to make us laugh.”

Friday evening is Nightlife featuring DJs for the 18 to 22 crowd. Saturday night is for the older crowd with homage performances that have included tribute bands for Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and The Eagles. “We also featured Mike Ward, Eric Lapointe, and the Boogie Wonder band.”

And let’s not forget that Chez Maurice is a very popular local restaurant daily from 3 p.m. every day, except Sunday. Please note that the Pub Quiz, Improv and Humour events feature French acts.

Bar Chez Maurice is located at 1897 Ste-Angélique in St-Lazare. Visit chezmaurice.ca to find out more.

Rigaud - Restaurant Rubes

Restaurant Rubes is the perfect place to relax and unwind and enjoy a delicious classic menu ranging from their specialty in-house burgers to ribs, steaks, and homemade soups but the latest addition to the menu is a musical jam session.

“It happens every second Wednesday,” said owner Lee Michaelson, noting the sessions have a life of their own as they depend upon who shows up for dinner and what instruments they bring with them. “It’s very low-key contemporary, there’s no loud rock and roll type of music,” said Michaelson. “Customers show up, order their meal or a drink and maybe play a few songs,” he added emphasizing that it’s all very impromptu and spontaneous. The next jam session will be Wednesday, November 7. The fun gets underway at around 7 p.m.

There is also an open mic night one Sunday a month welcoming local musical talent. The next open mic night will be held Sunday, November 11 starting at around 6:30 p.m.

Serving the surrounding area of Rigaud, Hudson, and Vaudreuil-Dorion since 1978, Restaurant Rubes is nestled in a natural woodland setting at 147 Highway 201 within easy reach of Exit 17 on Autoroute 40. There’s plenty of free parking and no traffic congestion. More info at www.restaurantrube.com.
