Quebec singer Yvan Pedneault was the special performing guest at the Saturday, October 20 Maison de la famille gala, happy to help support the cause.
A special gala was held on behalf of the Maison de la Famille on Saturday evening, October 20 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its founding and to raise funds for a second facility in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
The event was held at the Théâtre Paul-Émile Meloche in Vaudreuil-Dorion and drew hundreds of people including several local municipal politicians and provincial Liberal Vaudreuil MNA Marie-Claude Nichols.
‘An important organization’
As a lawyer with a background in family law, Nichols said the Maison de la Famille provides important services to families with children. “I know what they do for the population and how they help families in Vaudreuil and Soulanges,” said Nichols.
“They are an important organization. They provide mediation services including assisting in shared custody arrangements. It’s not always easy to work things out between parents. This is one reason their services are important. They also help children by providing health and development services,” said Nichols.
Vaudreuil-Dorion Pro-Mayor and Councillor Paul Dumoulin represented the city on behalf of Mayor Guy Pilon who was unable to attend because of a prior commitment. Pilon was in Mexico City to return a trophy won in the 2016 United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) international competition for its outstanding cultural initiatives. The trophy will be presented to this year’s winning municipality.

Providing many benefits
For the mayor and eight councillors, the bilingual services provided by the various non-profit organizations such as Maison de la Famille which is headquartered in St. Zotique, are just as important to Vaudreuil-Dorion as the city’s commitment to cultural diversity.
They merit equal attention because of the many benefits they provide to citizens not only within Vaudreuil-Dorion but throughout the region. It’s why the municipality supports these initiatives, said Dumoulin.
It’s also why Mayor Pilon was chosen as honourary president to celebrate the organization’s 30th anniversary and fundraising drive, said Maison de la Famille president Diane Lyonnais.
Their outstanding community service prompted Vaudreuil-Dorion council to adopt a resolution at their September 4 meeting to contribute $50,000 to help Maison de la Famille reach their $100,000 goal to buy a house in the municipality for their new site.
“This organization is so important for our community because we have every other type of service,” said Dumoulin. “This is the only thing that’s missing. I tell people to go to their website to see what they are doing. When we learned about what the Maison de la Famille needed, we wanted them in our city. We will do everything we can to receive them here because they give so much help to people.”
‘A great occasion’
L’Île Perrot Mayor Pierre Séguin and Pincourt Mayor Yvan Cardinal also expressed their support. “It’s a great occasion for us as politicians to help this good cause,” said Séguin.
“It’s important for people to know it exists and the services they provide. We think everybody knows but some people ask if there’s such a service, what does it do and how they can help. Everybody wants to give a hand to help people who are less fortunate. It’s a great organization,” Séguin added.
The soiree was capped with a rousing performance by singer Yvan Pedneault. “I’m very happy to be here supporting a great cause. It’s good to get involved in the community. I’m happy to be here and it looks like we have a great audience. We’re ready to rock-on!” he said.
