The Journal file photo/James Parry The annual Hudson Legion poppy campaign begins October 26 of this year and runs until November 10. Please be generous and wear your poppy proudly!
This week, once again, members of the Hudson Legion have been busy preparing the collection boxes and trays of poppies which will be distributed to stores and outlets in the area. This annual Canada-wide campaign by Legion branches throughout the country raises funds which directly support organizations that, in turn, help benefit our veterans and their families.
Last year, thanks to the generosity of our community, Branch 115 raised in excess of $29,000 and substantial donations were made to many local healthcare centres including The Veterans Service Bureau, The Old Brewery Mission, Ste. Anne’s Hospital, Lakeshore General Hospital, Hawkesbury General Hospital, the Nova Senior Centre, the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence, as well as The Manoir in Hudson.
Several Student Bursaries were also given. All of the monies raised are deposited in a separate trust fund and may not be used for the local branch. Eric Connor, Chairman of the Poppy Committee for Branch 115, mentioned that, “We are, once again, relying on the help and generosity of our community to support this very worthy endeavour.”
Poppy donation boxes will appear in local stores from Friday, October 26 until Saturday, November 10. Please be generous and wear your poppy proudly!
