Kids kicking in for kids

This weekend, September 15 and 16, and for the entire month of September, kids from four recreational soccer teams from the St. Lazare Hudson Soccer Club are participating in a fun and generous tournament with the goal of raising funds for all three Montreal area children’s hospitals.

The International Cup – Kids Playing for Kids (ICKPK) tournament, now in its proud 13th year of working hard to help local kids, is played in a format that mirrors the FIFA World Cup – right down to teams each taking on the colours of one of the 32 represented countries.

Jointly hosted by the regions of Concordia, Bourassa, and Lac St-Louis, this year’s tournament kicked off with an Opening Ceremony and Parade of Nations in Dollard-Des Ormeaux on Saturday, September 1 and will play out on various fields in the three regions for the rest of the month.

According to ICKPK president Ralph Nahas, as of the opening they had raised $30,000 of the $80,000 they hope to achieve. All money from the tournament will be donated to the foundations of the CHU Sainte-Justine, the Montreal Children’s Hospital, and the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Girls and boys in the tournament range in age from under seven to under 16, and they are set to play between three and seven games each in competition for the cup. The tournament will culminate with the division championships on Sunday, September 30.

The ICKPK is rooted in a strong spirit of giving back to the community, and aims to help foster values like respect, friendship, integrity, and harmony in the world. The tournament also nurtures a strong spirit of fun and pure love of the game of soccer, and all participants can look forward to the official Closing Ceremony and Parade of Champions to conclude the month’s action.

Thanks to the efforts of the all the volunteers, sponsors and participants, many kids who are sick today will feel the joy of playing in the future themselves.
