Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officers and investigators from the Bureau des enquêtes indépendentes (BEI) were still on the scene at noon, September 7 on Shamrock Street just about Northcote Street in Pincourt following an overnight incident in which a 43-year-old man reportedly poured gasoline inside his home and threatened to ignite it.
SQ spokesperson Sgt. Ingrid Asselin said the investigation has now been turned over to the BEI.
The man’s relatives had contacted police just before midnight September 6 to report he was suicidal.
Negotiation attempts with the man were unsuccessful and though there are no reports of fire, the man was found unconscious just around 6:10 a.m. The BEI account states officers observed the man inside the home with a bag on his head.
The man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The home is across the street from St. Patrick Elementary School which remains open to students.
The BEI is requesting that anyone who may have more information on this event to contact them through their website at www.bei.gouv.qc.ca.
