‘Special Hudson way of life’
On reading my copy of The Journal this week I noticed that James Parry’s Parrywinkle column is on a summer hiatus. If you are contemplating cancellation of this popular column, please give this some further thought. Hudson needs to grow, we need new citizens, more shops, and Parrywinkle contributes substantially to promoting that special Hudson way of life. You might want to consider finding local writers in the other towns where The Journal is distributed and include a column featuring local activities, personalities in those areas. These would not have to run on a weekly basis but perhaps in a rotation to provide a more intimate account of what is going on in other localities over and above your ‘Things to See and Do’ section.
This editorial expansion would potentially open more doors for local advertising support. Before possibly cancelling Parrywinkle, would you first consider a little inexpensive market research? It is a common marketing error these days to ‘whitewash’ everything, direct material to the lowest common denominator and remove what is unique and special. Some brief telephone or social media research, perhaps conducted by a newspaper staff member, could well provide you with valuable insight into how Hudson is perceived and how The Journal editorial material can best represent not just Hudson but all municipalities that you serve.
