Hudson’s historic Greenwood Centre gears up for 22nd year

Gardeners get Hudson's Greenwood Centre for Living HIstory ready for Opening Day this Sunday.

All the volunteers, gardeners and bakers who donate their homemade wares to the pantry of the Greenwood Centre for Living History are very busy this week. On Sunday, June 3, the centre will open its historic front door for its 22nd summer season. Hudson Mayor Jamie Nicholls will officially do the honours on Sunday afternoon as the centre celebrates the English Language Arts Network (ELAN) Arts Alive weekend with the musical talents of Karen Cromar, Glen Bowser and Dan Gallant.

And Opening Day at Greenwood is also traditionally Members Day – a celebration and heartfelt thank-you to all those who help keep the doors of this important historic building, now a municipal museum, open. The fun starts at 1 p.m., with music from 2 until 2.30 p.m. or so, and, as usual at Greenwood, homemade goodies will also be on offer. But that’s not all. Sunday will also provide the opportunity to learn all about Greenwood’s upcoming summer events.

In partnership with Hudson’s War Memorial Library, StoryFest for Kids will take place on Saturday, June 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with author Deborah Cowley, the Ben & Joonie puppet show, books, fairy gardening, stuffed toys, games, gardening for kids, house tours, and goodies and lemonade. You can bring a picnic!

Then in July, a very special fundraiser called Hat’s Off to Greenwood will feature an exhibition of Greenwood’s amazing collection, from bonnets to top hats to a real Schiaparelli. The exhibition will run all summer and there will be a special 5-à-7 July 19.

Other summer events include a dramatized reading of the play Letters to Phoebe on July 29, Theatre on the Lawn on August 19, and Treasures in the Attic on September 15. And then of course there’s StoryFest 2018.

We look forward to welcoming you to Greenwood this summer.

Greenwood’s guided house tours and tea are offered Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. ($12), and Sundays 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ($15, with scones). 254 Main Road, Hudson QC J0P 1H0. greenwood-centre-hudson.org.
