Groundbreaking for 80 affordable housing units for seniors in Pincourt

An official groundbreaking was held May 28 for the Coopérative de solidarité du Bel Âge de Pincourt. The future building will have 80 affordable housing units for semi-independent seniors and will require total investments of more than $18.1 million.

The groundbreaking was marked by Peter Schiefke, Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil–Soulanges, on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation; Marie-Claude Nichols, Member of the National Assembly for Vaudreuil, on behalf of Lise Thériault, Minister responsible for Consumer Protection and for Housing; and Yvan Cardinal, Mayor of Pincourt.

“Our Government is investing in affordable housing here in Pincourt and across Canada to help create jobs and improve the quality of life for those who need it most,” said Schiefke. “Today marks a victory for Pincourt and its surrounding areas as Coopérative de solidarité du Bel Âge de Pincourt, will soon provide 80 units of safe and affordable housing to our seniors. Most importantly, this project will keep them close to family and friends and close to home.”

"I applaud the drive of the Coopérative de solidarité du Bel Âge de Pincourt, which initiated this important project in the district of Vaudreuil,” said Nichols. “With its financial contribution, the Government of Quebec is helping to support seniors in our region by enabling them to stay in their community, close to their friends and families. I congratulate all the other partners that are backing this solidarity co-operative."

Highlights

  • Through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ), the governments of Canada and Quebec are providing nearly $5 million for the construction of this housing project, under the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement.

  • The Town of Pincourt is contributing almost $1.8 million for the development of this project. This sum is repaid by the Montréal Metropolitan Community (MMC) through the social housing fund, to which contribute 82 municipalities.

  • An amount of close to $160,000 will be granted by Transition énergétique Québec to ensure that the building will meet Novoclimat certification standards.

  • All the tenants of this housing project will benefit from the SHQ's Rent Supplement program, ensuring that they will not spend more than 25% of their income on housing. This additional assistance of nearly $1.4 million over five years is assumed by the SHQ (90%) and the Town of Pincourt (10%). The Town’s share is repaid by the MMC.
