The popularity of the RTM commuter train from Vaudreuil-Dorion to downtown has necessitated the installation of additional parking spots at the facility on Boulevard de la Gare.
The Réseau de transport métropolitain (RTM) announced May 14 the start of development work to make the parking lot south of the Vaudreuil commuter train station permanent. This work involves asphalting the entire surface as well as installing an underground retention basin to allow better drainage of the site. This work will run until September 2018.
Last November, the governments of Quebec and Canada announced an investment of $5.8 million through the Programme d’aide financière du fonds pour l’infrastructure de transport en commun (PAFFITC) to carry out this permanent development project of the south parking lot of the Vaudreuil station.
In order to maintain the equivalent number of parking spaces offered to users throughout the duration of the work, the RTM will work in three phases:
Phase 1: West portion of the parking lot - 93 entrances (from mid-May to June)
Phase 2: Central part of the parking lot - 176 spaces (from June to July)
Phase 3: Eastern portion of the parking lot - 151 spaces (from July to September)
During the work phases, the RTM invites customers to use the incentive parking located north of the station. The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion is also exceptionally providing 125 additional parking spaces for station users in the long-term parking section of the Multisports Centre until the end of the work.
Improvement of the accessibility of the Vaudreuil station
The RTM will also benefit from this period to improve the accessibility of the Vaudreuil station. Some stairs will be replaced with ramps to allow easier access to the platform for people with reduced mobility.
