Pointe-des-Cascades fire

A plume of thick grey smoke was visible over 20 kilometres away as firefighters from three towns battled a grass fire on the shores of the St. Lawrence River in Pointe-des-Cascades April 24.

Fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. and, fed by the wind, quickly spread among the dried stalks along the shoreline just below the intersection of Chemin du Fleuve and rue Centrale. The cause was unknown.

Firefighters from neighbouring Les Cèdres and Vaudreuil-Dorion also responded to the call. One firefighter from Pointe-des-Cascades received medical treatment after being overcome by heat and fumes.

The fire was brought under control shortly before 2 p.m.
