Maison de la Famille Vaudreuil-Soulanges celebrates 30 years of service
For three decades, Maison de la Famille Vaudreuil-Soulanges has developed and provided support services for families and children in the region. To mark the event, the organization has launched a fundraising campaign to support the establishment of an additional permanent location in Vaudreuil-Dorion. Currently, the organization has offices and program space in the Town of Saint-Zotique. President of the Administrative Council Diane Lyonnais made the announcement during a press conference held Monday, April 9 at the Vaudreuil-Dorion Public Library.
“It is, above all, a place where families have a sense of belonging, a door is always open for listening, for respite, information and encouragement in the exercise of parenting,” said Lyonnais describing the role of the Maison in the community.
“With about 20 percent of the population in the region being Anglophone, we do provide services in English,” Lyonnais added. She said the fundraising campaign was necessary because funding from various ministries of the Quebec government is dedicated to supporting programs and administration. The fundraising campaign has three parts – the family activities, a web campaign and an evening benefit event, according to Director France Pomminville.
Mayor’s fundraising commitment
Vaudreuil-Dorion’s Mayor Guy Pilon said he is fully supportive of the fundraising campaign and looks forward to finding a location for the organization in his town. “My commitment is to raise $100,000 for the project,” said Pilon. As honorary president of the 30th anniversary fundraising events, Pilon said business owners in the region frequently look for ways in which to give back to their community. “We also have 23 towns in the region that may be able to contribute some money,” he added.
Quebec singer and songwriter Yvan Pedneault
Yvan Pedneault made an appearance at the press conference to announce a benefit concert for the fundraising campaign Saturday, October 20 at Théâtre Paul-Émile Meloche. Pedneault was the third place winner in the 2016 season of La Voix. The concert, coupled with a pre-event cocktail hour, also celebrates Maison de la Famille’s birthday.
Yoga for the family
The celebrations begin Saturday, May 26 with a free family yoga event offered by the town in Valois Park in Vaudreuil-Dorion at 9:30 a.m. Maison de la Famille will be have a kiosk offering activities for the entire family.
The official inauguration of the courtyard at the organization’s Saint-Zotique location is planned for Sunday, June 3 at 10 a.m. “The municipality and the Children's Foundation of Vaudreuil-Soulanges will be present to formalize their contribution to the layout of the courtyard which will benefit the children of our nursery and summer day camp,” said Pomminville. The mission of the Children’s Foundation of Vaudreuil-Soulanges is to contribute in concrete ways to the educational and social success of all children in vulnerable situations in the region. Following the inauguration, the festivities will continue at Parc Desjardins-du-Millénaire with the town’s Fête Familiale.
A mother’s experience
As an ambassador for Maison de la Famille and the web campaign, Marie-Belle Ouellet offered a synopsis of her experience as a young mother and how the organization provided her with support. “It came into my life when I stopped believing that life would be good for us,” said Ouellet adding that meeting other mothers, receiving their encouragement and support became an important part of her life. For Ouellet, her experience provides a direct connection to the web campaign titled “Une histoire qui fait vibrer” (A story that moves you).
“We have the power to change things in order to allow families to grow happily. Let’s join together so that love will be the great winner in all of these trials because no one is immune,” she said.
