New executive director of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence, Jean-François Thibert, (centre) was welcomed by some of the staff and many volunteers on his first day at work on Monday, December 18, as well as by outgoing interim executive director, Anne Lauzon (to his left in photo). The nurses were elsewhere in the Residence preparing for the arrival of a new patient.

On his first official day in the office at the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence in Hudson this week, new Executive Director Jean-François Thibert admits he was not really prepared for the reception he received.

“It was simply overwhelming and all of it positive,” he told Your Local Journal. “I met separately with the nurses, staff, and many of the volunteers and it was so heartwarming to see that we are really on the same team and determined to continue the wonderful work and excellent quality of care that the dynamic people here have been doing for the community for the past seven years. Like me, they are all passionate about what they do and they all love people and life itself until the very end.”

Added Thibert, who comes to the post with 25 years’ experience in business management including being general manager of private seniors' residences and serving on the organizing committee of the Finale des Jeux du Québec, “I have always believed it important that one not only communicates with one's team, but also listens to them with respect, and involve them in what is going on. And this is something I fully intend to do as we move ahead into 2018.”

Added Anne Lauzon, interim executive director for the past three months and whose specific mandate was to find her full-time successor as well as oversee and lead all the teams during the transition period, “The Residence is certainly in good hands with Jean-François. He is definitely a team player. And it has been an honour working with that team since October. Indeed, it has been an experience that I will remember all my life.”

Currently, the Residence is looking forward to again hosting its major fundraiser, Happening 2018, on Saturday, January 27, starting at 5.30 p.m. at the Pavillon sur le lac du Château Vaudreuil in Vaudreuil-Dorion with a spectacular show by Florence K and under the honorary presidency of Isabelle Salvas, Executive Director of Promutuel Assurance.

Tickets are $250, with a $100 income tax receipt, and for reservations or further info, call Monique Bourbonnais at (450) 424-1085 or Barbara Firth at (450) 202-2202.
