Pierre Séguin seeks seat in L’Île-Perrot mayoralty race

Well known in L’Île-Perrot for both his art gallery and being the founder of the annual SOUP Festival of Vaudreuil-Soulanges, Pierre Séguin announced his candidacy for mayor September 13.

The sun was shining on “the most beautiful island in the world” Wednesday morning, September 13, when well-known art gallery owner and founder of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges SOUP Festival Pierre Séguin announced he will be running for mayor of Ville de L’Île-Perrot on November 5.

Resident of L’Île-Perrot for nearly 30 years, Séguin has been a vocal and active promoter of his town, through a number of social and political activities, as well as many political implications over the years, both at the local and regional levels.

“Election is the basis of our democracy, which is, in my view, an institution that is losing ground nowadays,” he said. “I want the residents to take collective pride in our community.”

President of the Île-Perrot business association (AGAIP) from 2007 to 2014, and Director until 2016, Séguin was also one of the founding members of the Citizens Committee for the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Hospital.

Running as an independent, Séguin describes himself as a team player and says he’s looking forward to working with councillors as passionate and motivated as him.

“I’m a people’s person and I listen carefully to what everyone has to say, whether it’s a concern about infrastructures or municipal taxes, a question or a suggestion,” he added.

“Road accessibility and circulation has to be improved, and pushing the completion of the Highway 20 project has become urgent,” he said.

“Finalizing the construction of boulevard du Traversier and improving the old and worn out infrastructure in some highly-neglected sectors of the town must be addressed as well.”

The rapid increase in the population over the last decades has its consequences and pro-active measures must be taken in the near future, he added.

As an odd turn of events, Pierre Séguin has a namesake (Pierre Z. Séguin) running as mayor as well, in the neighbouring town of Vaudreuil-Dorion.
