Michel Beauchamp studied at the Montreal Conservatory of Music. He obtained a first prize in guitar in the class of Jean Vallières and completed a graduate degree in writing under the direction of Jacques Faubert.
Mr. Beauchamp has developed in Canada and Spain with great guitar masters such as Manuel Barrueco, Álvaro Pierri and David Russell.
At the beginning of his career, M. Beauchamp explored chamber music, notably with the soprano Adrienne Savoie, with which he recorded his first album in 2001 under the ATMA label. The recording contains works by Mompou, Dowland, Schubert, Granados, Hahn, Ravel, de Falla and Rodrigo transcribed for voice and guitar seven strings by Michel Beauchamp.
He later became interested in flamenco, which he joined professionally in 2003. After ten years of performances with his troupe Pasión Flamenca, he wrote an original didactic work of 140 pages which serves as a basis for his teaching in " Flamenco Guitar Workshop.
In 2004, he began a long period of research on three composers: Francisco Tárrega, Johann Sebastian Bach and Fernando Sor. During the centenary of the death of Tárrega in 2009 and after five years of research, it appears Integrale of the compositions for guitar in partition to the Editions of OZ and in discs to XXI-21-Universal.
In 2011, Michel Beauchamp recorded the Complete Bach Lute Works on the seven-string guitar at XXI-21-Universal and supervised an edition with OZ. Finally, Fernando Sor's masterpieces for guitar appeared at OZ's Editions in 2017 and ended this triptych of the largest corpus for guitar before the twentieth century.
Michel Beauchamp founded the Trio Iberia in 2015 with violinist Johanne Morin and cellist Julie Trudeau. This ensemble dedicated to Spanish classical music interprets original transcriptions made by Michel Beauchamp. After being a finalist at the Prix Opus 2015, the trio will be touring with the Conseil des Arts de Montréal in 2017-2018. Michel Beauchamp has also performed in Canada, the United States and Europe. Some of these recitals were picked up by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Vermont Public Radio.
