A very special reunion is planned at Chez Maurice on June 3. Back to Chez Maurice will bring together past and present doormen, waiters, waitresses, barmen, barmaids and busboys who have agreed to volunteer and give a large portion of their tips to the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence Foundation.

Ginette Plante, a Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence volunteers for over three years, is the driving force behind this fundraiser. “The idea of a reunion emerged from a conversation with an old colleague of mine who said it would be really awesome to have the opportunity to work again one last time just for the fun of it,” she explains.

She quickly turned to her former bosses Richard Chartrand and Jean Maurice who accepted to support her initiative. “I did not have to convince them. It was so heartwarming to see that everyone was enthusiastic from the beginning,” adds Ginette.

Over the past few months, she has been helped by a handful of dedicated people who joined her organizing committee. Owners Richard Chartrand and Jean Maurice, Jean-Claude Montpellier (a waiter for over 30 years) and his wife Lyndia (also a former employee), Lucie Rhéaume (barmaid for over 39 years) and her husband André Bénard (bass player who took the stage at Chez Maurice in the 80s), François Brunet (employee for over 30 years) and Marc-Antoine Maurice (son of Jean Maurice who, at 22 years of age, is slated to take the helms of the reputed establishment) all joined in Ginette’s adventure.

DJs and musicians with bands like Union Days, Barcode, Chess, Taylormade, The Tribes, Likwid and Rusty are all coming together after many years and volunteering their talent to create a memorable musical experience. The evening will also pay tribute to the owners of this renowned establishment. “Richard and Jean have been and continue to be for many of us, excellent bosses. We are thrilled to work together again and for a cause that is so meaningful to us,” adds Ginette.

“Ginette is a volunteer who wears her heart on her sleeve,” explains Mireille Fink, Volunteer Coordinator at the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Residence. “Her smile is contagious and she would give the clothes on her back to anyone in need. She embodies the spirit of volunteerism and as one of our 240 volunteers, is a source of tremendous pride for us.”
