Please help us to help them

CASCA (Comité d’Aide et de Secours pour les Chats Abandonnés) is a non-profit, 100% volunteer-run organization, dedicated to finding permanent homes for lost, abandoned and neglected cats. We are also combating the overpopulation of stray cats through the T/N/R program (Trap/Neuter/Release) by trapping and sterilizing cats in need and, if adoption cannot be considered, by releasing them back into their environment where they can live an average of five years.

Statistics show that if cats are left unsterilized in colonies, a cat can produce 3 litters per year with each litter having 4 kittens. After 5 years, you will have a whopping 20,736 cats. Sadly, many of them will perish of starvation, disease and exposure to our brutal winters. Isn’t it more humane and sensible to sterilize the animals and avoid such sad events?

The task of trapping, neutering and finding homes for them takes a lot of patience and dedication on the behalf of our volunteers. Cats that are too feral will be put back into their colonies but at least they can no longer contribute to the gene pool.

In 2016, CASCA adopted out 338 cats. This year alone, we have found homes for 37 cats. CASCA does not operate a shelter. We are a network of foster homes where our cats are placed temporarily until they are adopted. With “Kitty Season” upon us, we are in dire need of foster homes to place the newborns. Food and medical expenses are provided by CASCA.

All our cats and kittens, once trapped, are examined by a veterinarian, treated against parasites and are sterilized and vaccinated. Cats and kittens are then placed in foster homes where our volunteers take care of them in their homes, providing warmth, affection and socialization until a permanent home can be found.

We cannot do this without your help. Now, with kitten season approaching, the need for foster homes has become more urgent. This is our second appeal in the local newspaper as our first call for help, unfortunately produced no results. Please find it in your heart to open your home and foster one of these cats.

“Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
