The huge success of the women’s Olympic curling team at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic games has helped spark the interest in women's curling.
The Hudson Legion Curling Club is excited about its latest venture – a program designed specifically to introduce women to the winter sport of curling. The eight-week program will teach participants the basics of Canada's rapidly growing sport in an environment where everyone is starting from the beginning. Curling is a fun winter sport that is welcoming, accessible, and affordable.
The whole program will cost participants only $80, thanks to a generous subsidy from Curling Quebec. Two-hour sessions will be held on Saturday mornings, starting October 22, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and run through to December 10. Each week, the women will learn curling skills and get to try them out on the ice in a short-game format.
This successful teaching approach was innovated by Curling Canada, and trialed in Quebec last year to much acclaim. The structured lesson plans are presented by qualified coaches and experienced players to ensure that newcomers learn all necessary skills to ensure on-ice safety and proper playing techniques, in a supportive and friendly environment.
