Letter to the editor 1, Sept. 15, 2016

Dear Editor,

Like many others, I was saddened to read about the closing of the Auberge Willlows.

I understand the concern regarding winter revenue, but the loss would be significant to Hudson, as well as the entire of the Montreal area. That said, I have a suggestion.

Could Mike Poirier and the Town of Hudson collaborate to have the Willows take on the additional role of a cultural centre? This might result in a reasonably priced solution to Hudson's desire to have a waterfront arts centre. Perhaps Hudson could lease the inn, or become a partner?

This idea would save a landmark, ensure waterfront access remains similar to the current status quo, and prevent concerns about taking away wetlands to build a new arts centre.

The Willows could end up rivalling the popularity of Pointe Claire's Stewart Hall Cultural Centre. It would also prevent the Willow Place Inn from losing its status as an enterprise, always a concern regarding zoning in Como.

It would be wonderful to see Hudson showing a community solution that is win-win.

The alternative would be too sad.
