Opening match of Noir et Or football in Valleyfield

On a perfect late summer evening, the Noir et Or football team of Collège de Valleyfield started its second year August 28 in Division 2 by claiming a 45-17 victory against the Triads of Cégep régional de Lanaudière, thus winning his first game of the 2016 season.

The inaugural match was held at Collège de Valleyfield and the stands were packed with excitement and adrenaline anticipating the ceremonial opening kickoff. The crowd, estimated at about 900 individuals, was in high spirits with the animations and surprises offered by local Caisses Desjardins fueling the mood.

The pre-game BBQ had barely ended when training led by Patrick Lauzon jumped into action, providing totally explosive offensive play. With a strong line of experienced defense, the four ball carriers shared the rest of the job and the new quarterback, #15, Kelley Brossard (Les Cèdres, formerly of Cité-des-Jeunes), was well protected.

From 1st quarter, the offensive line of the Noir et Or managed to upset the opponent and to open the way required for #3, Olivier Denis Séguin (Gatineau, formerly of Vortex du Versant) finished the job on the 3-yard line, having accumulated 59 yards rushing. A few minutes later, the Noir et Or quarterback demonstrated the precision and strength of his arm when he joined #84, Lionel Goulet-Laurin, (Châteauguay, formerly of Grenadiers de Louis-Philippe-Paré) who traveled 78 yards to reach the end zone, bringing the score to 14-0.

Eternal rivals since their debut in Division 3, the Valleyfield team and the Triads were still digging in not to let each other gain ground. The two teams have shared successes and failures during the following quarters, but Noir et Or was quick to take over the game by recording three more touchdowns on the scoreboard.

It’s player #32, Maxime Gareau (Très-St-Rédempteur, formerly of Voltigeurs du Collège Bourget) who first reached the end zone on a 7-yard run, bringing the score to 21-7. Then, after a perfect defensive sequence, the attack of Noir et Or struck again on a perfect 9-yard pass to Olivier-Denis Séguin to Kelley Brossard, allowing # 3 to register his second major play of the match.

The attack of Noir et Or reappeared in the 3rd quarter when the team added on the following sequence, a 6-yard run with #11, Joey Rousseau, (Delson, alumni of Rebelles de St-Hubert) bearing the mark to 37-10. It was on a 44-yard pass received by #2, Maxime Fortin (Vaudreuil-Dorion, formerly of Citadins de la Cité-des-Jeunes) that the last hit of Noir et Or was registered early in the fourth quarter, sealing the final score to 45-17 and conceding victory to the team of the Collège de Valleyfield.

The next game will be held September 3, 7:30 p.m. on the field at Collège de Valleyfield against the Diablos from Cégep de Trois-Rivières. For more information: (450) 373-9441, ext. 389 or
