Letter to the editor 4, July 14, 2016
As most of you know, Mother Nature decided that Saturday, July 9, was not the day for the Hudson Auto Show and our first Soap Box Derby.
I had a look at the announcements I had prepared for our emcee and feel that these sentiments deserve to be shared. Here is an abbreviated version.
We would like to thank:
-The Town of Hudson for supporting this great community event and for allowing us to close off a few roads for the celebration.
-The people of Hudson for being such great sports and having wonderful community spirit.
-The staff and administration at the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Palliative Care Centre for the wonderful work they do. We are in awe of their dedication and compassion and are grateful that they have allowed us to participate in this small way.
- The team at Château du Lac. At our first meeting Mike Noonan said, "Just tell me what you need." He's a man of few words but they always count.
-The team at Cunningham's Pub. The pub challenge event in the soap box race is a brilliant idea from Jim Beauchamp, an amazing supporter of his community.
Last but not least we have to thank the volunteers.
We've been working on this day for the best part of a year.
It reinforces our faith in humanity to collaborate with people who will work really hard for absolutely no other reason than to help others.
There's no glory in stuffing 300 gift bags, sending and replying to hundreds of emails, updating a website every week or moving hay bales, barriers, tents, and tires around town. There is, however, the possibility that you're helping a kid you don't know have a day he'll always remember and that's just so much better. It's a gift to know these people.
We will work to reschedule the event as soon as possible.
