For the second month in a row I had asked St. Lazare Council for a breakdown of costs incurred for the au Galop Festival. Again they did not have figures available and maintained that they came within the budget. If, as they say, they came within budget, they should be proud to present a few figures when asked. By waiting to read about it does not wash with me. The mayor and councillors work for us, not vice versa. I believe that an individual was hired for $48,000. This could have been confirmed.
I believe we need to get a petition prepared with 500 signatures plus an additional 17 people (town hall) to sign and have someone on council resign. We cannot afford to spend taxpayers’ money.
Taxes collected by the town do not cover the entire yearly budget. We do not have the population of large towns to cover costs.
Time for the citizens of St. Lazare to come out to monthly meetings and say enough is enough.
With a population of almost 20,000 why can't we get at least 1000 people attending?
By not coming out, you are giving council cart blanche to spend our hard-earned money.
Come on people, wake up.
