Nobody was injured in a St. Lazare fire that started the afternoon of May 11 on the lot near the corner of Bédard Avenue and Chemin Ste. Angélique and quickly spread to a nearby barn.
“There was a boat inside the barn but it wasn’t touched by the fire,” said Saint Lazare Fire Department Assistant Director Régent Marineau. “It began as a brush fire and spread to the front of the barn. We succeeded in stopping it from advancing to nearby structures on the same lot.”
Firefighters from Les Cèdres aided in fighting the fire and the Rigaud team was present at the St. Lazare fire station.
“Presently, we’re looking into the cause of the fire,” said Marineau, who would only say that it’s ‘undetermined.’ The amount of damages to the structure will be decided by the insurance company.
“It was an old building,” he said. “Half the structure was damaged, while the other half was untouched.”
