Heavy rains and a clogged grill caused the collapse of a culvert that crosses chemin Saint-Georges north of Highway 201 in Rigaud during the night of Thursday, March 31. Municipal workers had the area closed off to through traffic by Friday morning. According to Mayor Hans Gruenwald Jr., ensuing repair work revealed the metal pipe has corroded and will likely have to be replaced. “The issue also involves the Ministry of the Environment,” he said, adding the costs of replacing the culvert will come up at a subsequent town council meeting. As of Wednesday, April 6, repairs were completed and the road was re-opened to traffic.
