The Société de développement commercial Hudson (SDC Hudson) is holding its annual general meeting Monday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Stephen F. Shaar Community Center.

“It’s open to all SDC Hudson members and businesses outside of the central commercial area,” said President Pat O’Grady during an interview Tuesday, April 21, adding that refreshments will be served. Board member Frank Hicks said the business of the evening is to elect board members followed by the election of a president, vice president and secretary.

Nominations will take place at the meeting and voting is by paid up members with one vote per business. “This organization belongs to the businesses of Hudson,” said O’Grady, “and its success depends upon all the merchants of Hudson.” Hicks said the new website and Facebook pages are available thanks to the creativity and dedication of Kels Deegan and encourages everyone to visit www.sdchudson.com and https://www.facebook.com/HudsonVillage/.

“We will promote all the businesses in Hudson on the website and Facebook,” Hicks said, noting that there’s a learning curve associated with receiving and giving information. “Close collaboration with the town is essential,” said Diane Piacente, former Interim Mayor. Although Piacente is not a business owner, she is a board member that volunteers in the work of developing the SDC. She said Hudson’s Director of Culture and Tourism Nicolas Pedneault is collaborating with the SDC regarding up-coming events for the town.

“We have accomplished a lot in the past year,” said Hicks enthusiastically. He said a logo for the organization has been established, the National Bank is a sponsor, and a map of the town was printed and will be updated. “We were involved in the planning of the St. Patrick’s Parade, organized the Christmas Market and the town wide garage sale and supported the Music Festival,” he added. All three agreed that SDC Hudson is a great marketing and funding tool for local business. “Together there is strength,” stated Piacente.
