As the Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil- Soulanges and the NDP candidate for the upcoming federal elections, I would like to congratulate Peter Schiefke on his nomination as Liberal candidate. In the coming months I look forward to discussing and debating the issues that our region and our country faces.
Over the last year, New Democrats have begun to unveil our platform and started a dialogue with the people of Vaudreuil-Soulanges. We have put forward concrete progressive solutions for the challenges we collectively face such as restoring health care funding to the provinces, helping local small and medium businesses succeed through tax reduction and elimination of credit card fees, and restoration of environmental laws to strengthen protection of our local lakes and rivers. Jack Layton believed that ordinary Canadians working together could govern our country responsibly.
Our diverse caucus is made up of people from all walks of life who believe that optimism and love for a region and its people allowed for one to truly represent electors. As opposition, I look forward to discussing the liberal platform with Mr. Schiefke over the coming months and I welcome any ideas that he may have to contribute and share concerning local and federal issues that preoccupy our constituents.
As a resident of Vaudreuil-Soulanges, I welcome Mr. Schiefke to our region. He will find the people here welcoming and gracious. Our region is blessed with much natural beauty and we are fortunate to live here.
