Letter to the editor 1, Sept. 18, 2014

Clearing the waters

Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to an area media report targeting me, personally, in an article concerning the Pine Lake dam loan by-law registry. I can take no issue with the reporting of the facts surrounding the town registry last Tuesday. However, I am well placed to comment on the theory offered to explain the logic behind the council’s decision, as I was named in what appears to be a blatant attempt to place blame on my actions!

Firstly, the article blames a letter that was sent to the Town on my behalf from the law firm of Grey Casgrain. As residents perhaps may not be aware, the Town was required to be put on notice concerning the dam to address a limitation period which operates by way of law, not because of my personal preference.

Secondly, the letter was sent not only on my behalf, but on the behalf of a group of concerned like-minded Hudson residents. In respect of the second letter sent August 11 in which I asked the town to waive my third tax installment bill, one only has to visit my property and inspect the damage that has been done to understand the request. I cannot guess the motivation for targeting me personally but suspect it’s due to selective reporting on those facts that fit a chosen conclusion.
